Explore the Dutch roots of New York City on this walking tour of historic New Amsterdam! Led by DORIS’ Operations Manager, Michael Lorenzini, we’ll visit the former locations of Fort Amsterdam, the Heere Gracht (Great Canal), and the Stadt Huys (City Hall), uncovering stories of how settlers, traders, laborers, and Indigenous peoples shaped New Amsterdam.
The tour concludes at the NYC Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS), with a viewing of New Visions of Old New York, an interactive exhibit featuring a 3-D map from the New Amsterdam History Center’s Mapping Early New York project and rare 17th-century records from the Municipal Archives and Library.
Join us for this fascinating walk through time and discover how traces of New Amsterdam can still be found in the streets of modern-day New York City!
